305 buses in the capital generate 20.623 tons of pollutants per year. Live measurements at Wake Up

Air quality in dense urban areas of Tirana is significantly influenced by emissions from the transport sector both private and public. Polluters such as CO2 - PM10 - NOx - HC - CO souring from exhaust system are responsible for an annual total load of 20’263 tons or equal to 41 kg/person. In order for this pollution to be naturally absorbed, there would be needed at least 203’881 Plane Trees with an average age of 70-80 years. These findings indicate the results carried out by the emission calculation for the 305 buses, comprising the overall Tirana Municipality Public Transport Fleet. Only 22% of this fleet does meet the EURO-V emission standards. It is important to underline that this could be the most optimistic scenario as we did not take into consideration the amortization factor and the poor quality of the fuel being used for this purpose. Long story short, if 40 kg pollution per year is just the share sourcing from Public Transport Feet, imagine if we add 2'617 public service vehicles, more than 5'500 private taxis and an average of 170’000 private-owned vehicles, than the overall pollution load you have to face on a yearly basis will most probably double your body-weight.
